Go-Go's personal statement on the passing of Joey Ramone

The Go-Go's are very saddened by the news that Joey Ramone passed away on Easter Sunday...heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. The Ramones were one of the single most important bands ever and their music influenced all of us. We were fortunate to have met Joey on several occasions and one of the highlights of our career was a telegram from the Ramones congratulating us when our album "Beauty and the Beat" went to number 1.

Belinda: the concert that changed my life was the Ramones at the Roxy in 1977.

Charlotte: the concert that changed my life was the Ramones with Blondie in 1977. I am very, very sad. But I know that every time I hear the Ramones, I will be transported to an altered state.

Kathy: I probably saw the Ramones dozens of times-- more than I saw any other band...every chance I got, because they never ever failed to make me happy. I wanted so bad for the Go-Go's and the Ramones to tour together one summer!! Besides being the singer of one of my favorite bands, Joey was sweet, shy, and easy to talk to.

Gina: The first time I saw the Ramones was at CBGBs in 1978. They blew me away. I was instantly a fan. I went out and bought four of their albums: Ramones, Rocket to Russia, Leave Home, and Road to Ruin. I listened to those records over and over, and still can without growing tired of them. They're classics. The band left a huge impression on me which made me want to be part of the whole punk scene. I must have seen the Ramones play a million times, and every time was as incredible as the first. God Bless Joey Ramone!

Jane: The Ramones were the first band that made me realize great music could be made with a minimum of parts: a handful of chords, a simple beat, minimalist lyrics and a streamlined melody. They opened up the world of songwriting to me. I can't believe Joey is gone, he will be missed.
